This week we would like to give you an insight into the life of the wonderful Gurg. Gurj co-host’s the Lockdown film club every Friday night at 7pm Via Zoom. We are very grateful to have Gurj as part of our Heart Family and for all the hard work he is putting in to gives us the opportunity to come together and share stories about the films we love.
“I’m Gurj, and I’m from Pudsey. I was born and brought up in Yorkshire, but also now reside in Wilmslow, with frequent trips back to Leeds.I started out at Writing groups, which is where I met some of the members of Heart, but through my imprint of Canvas, Beats and Cinematic Visions, I have led Film and Music nights for the past 4 years, and currently co-host the Lockdown Film Club every Friday at 7 pm on Zoom for Heart.
My love of all things Film and Music come from my childhood and both my parents. They were both creatives who worked in Yorkshire textile design and technology. Through their own love, I was shrouded in books, albums and a cache of VHS copies of classic films, and great TV, which has also inspired me to become a collector.
With the Viva Food and Film seasons run last year celebrating the best Cinema from across Europe and Asia, which showcased my love of film as cultural education, and one which highlights that we are all closer in life than we really think. The Lockdown Film Club builds on that and looks at how important film and art are to our lives in documenting our experiences and also providing much-needed distraction and inspiration.
I feel it is always important to take time out for reflection. This Lockdown has allowed for that, and for us all to take a step back and breathe. Reflection also brings humility and true recognition. My experience in being a Carer for both of my Parents reinforced how brilliant the NHS is, and also how the communities around us are family. And in all that HEART is doing, I’m very proud to be a member of theirs.”
