Duncan & Anne sing & play classy, eminently listenable songs, both traditional and contemporary (you might even get some Beatles or Crowded House – you never know!) Expect a strong rhythmic impetus that’s infectious in the extreme.
A punchy guitarist in the ‘English folk’ style paired alongside a highly talented fiddler, Duncan & Anne offer up sets split between their own and well-known contemporary songs, plus songs from the Tradition.
They have an obvious feel for the tradition and a deep-rooted belief that it has a place in the current folk scene, aspects which they put across with lively showmanship.
Duncan’s own songs show a canny grasp of, and response to, the tradition, while his intrinsic seriousness of intent and approach is often laced with a healthy irreverence that happens to be hugely entertaining.
“Top lad that Duncan McFarlane, a great bandleader who brings so much pleasure and fun to so many, many people. If you don’t know him and you get a chance to go and see him ‘live’, then do go and see him because he’s absolutely terrific – whether he’s doing his acoustic set, or doing the folk-rock set with his full band, he’s a favourite at festivals all over the North of England and beyond” – Mike Harding
