Fishing4Compliments
Fishing4Compliments are a five piece indie/folk/pop band from Huddersfield which emerged organically around lead singer Eileen’s songs. The band’s music has been described as; unique and distinctive, light and upbeat, uplifting, foot-tapping, ‘making you feel like dancing in the moonlight’ and ‘taking you away from everyday life’ and the song’s lyrics as ‘intriguing,’ ‘enigmatic,’ ‘intuitive’ and ‘poignant.’ Their sound has emerged through; combining Eileen’s, Ashley’s (rhythm guitar); James’ (lead guitar & backing vocals), Steve’s (bass guitar & backing vocals) and David’s (drums & percussion) eclectic mix of influences and a shared enthusiasm for developing the songs to create something they like to call their own.
They released their debut album ‘Off The Isle Of Somewhere’ in April 2020. Their album, produced by The Dunwells, has been enthusiastically received and described, for example, as: “Bright and breezy and at times utterly irresistible’ and “Eleven tracks of upbeat and optimistic folk-pop” (Dave Beech, RGM Magazine).
Despite the album being released two years ago a variety of the songs continue to enjoy regular radio play across an array of community and internet radio shows with The Russ Evans Music Show on Ridge Radio once commenting that “For me Fishing4Compliments are a little gem, a little sparkle that has come out of 2020.”
Fishing4Compliments have received nominations within the category of; best Folk/Acoustic Act (as part of the Radio Wigwam Awards 2020) and Outstanding Yorkshire Artist/Band (as part of the Yorkshire Gig Guide’s Grassroots Awards in 2018 and 2019).
Apart from their newest member David (who has been bringing his quirky sounds to the mix since 2017) the band have been creating and gigging together for over eleven years and having fun, friendship and bringing the ‘Fishing’ vibe to new songs continue to be the factors that drive them to keep on keeping on. They are currently working towards their second album and they would love to start reaching a wider audience with their ‘feel good’ music.
Here also is a little more bit about what others have had to say about their music:
“F4C specialise in catchy, hook-laden folk/pop songs written by Eileen, which features her clear, natural voice, sometimes with vibrato, which gives the band’s music a distinctive unique sound. Eileen is also a fine songwriter who is able to combine intriguing, personal lyrics with a shiny pop sensibility (Peter Cowley, FATEA Magazine).
“Beautiful folk music, with sounds of Fleetwood Mac, The Cranberries and The Cardigans. Dreamy Melodies and harmonies, weaved together with great musicianship and songs that take you away from everyday life. Great band who love playing live and the audience can’t do anything but enjoy it and want to hear more” (Mark Richardson-Owner of Loafers Vinyl & Coffee, The Piece Hall, Halifax)
