The Alec Robinson Quartet is a new project formed in 2017 which brings together four distinctive and familiar musicians from the Leeds jazz scene. The group is fronted by Ben Lowman on tenor sax, with a rhythm section led by Alec on piano, and comprising John Marley on bass and Steve Hanley on drums. Conceived as an originals project, the Quartet showcases new melody-driven compositions by Alec which take their influences from artists as diverse as Abdullah Ibrahim, John Taylor, Tord Gustavsen and Herbie Hancock. Added to this mix are renditions of world-famous songbook perennials, as well as covers of more obscure musical gems, to produce a stylistically-varied and unique programme.
