Jane’s work responds to mineralogy and historic ‘hard rock’ mining sites. Minerals are created deep in the earth’s crust as different substances interact with each other producing crystals and beautiful structures and patterns. Jane uses time, pigments, water, rust, paint and industrial materials to develop abstract images which echo such processes.
These pre-occupations and an interest in fieldwork have led to a series of collaborative projects and residencies in the Lake District and North Pennines.
Her work has been shown in lead, copper and iron ore mining locations and reflects something of this often overlooked aspect of landscape.
Jane lives in North Leeds and studied fine art at Leeds University and Leeds College of Art.
